Dr Dan Metcalfe leads a group of researchers at CSIRO concerned with addressing the ecological underpinnings of the big sustainability science questions facing Australia and its region. In 1998–2004 he lectured in ecology at University of Brighton in the United Kingdom and continued his interest in tropical research with field work in east and southern Africa and south-east Asia. From 2012–14, Dr Metcalfe was the Research Program Leader for Ecology, in the Ecosystem Sciences Division, based at the EcoSciences Precinct in Brisbane. He is now a Research Group Leader in the Biodiversity & Ecosystem Knowledge & Services Program of the Land & Water Flagship, and also manages CSIRO's Office of Indigenous Engagement.
